The Diocese of Matanzas ( lat. : Dioecesis Matansansis ) is an on Cuba situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Matanzas .
history
The diocese of Matanzas was established on December 10, 1912 by Pope Pius X. with the Apostolic Constitution Quae catholicae religioni from cessions of territory from the diocese of San Cristóbal de la Habana and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba as a suffragan . On January 6, 1925, the diocese of Matanzas was subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Cristóbal de la Habana as a suffragan. The well-known holiday area of Varadero belongs to the diocese of Matanzas with the church of Santa Elvira built in 1938.
