The Diocese of Győr ( German Diocese of Raab , Hungarian Győri egyházmegye , Latin Dioecesis Iaurinensis ) is a Hungarian diocese that is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest . The diocese has its seat in Győr .
The diocese was in 1009 by Stephen I founded. From around 1450 to 1733 the bishop had the dignity of comes perpetuus supremus . From 1594 to 1598 the diocesan area belonged to the Ottoman Empire .
In 1777 the diocese had to cede a large part of its territory to the newly established diocese of Szombathely .
On May 18, 1922, further parishes were handed over to the newly established Apostolic Administration of Burgenland .
