The diocese Sabina-Poggio Mirteto ( Latin Dioecesis Sabinensis-Mandelensis , Italian Diocesi suburbicaria di Sabina-Poggio Mirteto ) is a suburbicarian diocese and as such belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Rome . The bishopric is the city of Poggio Mirteto .
The diocese of Sabina was founded in the 5th century. In 1841 the diocese of Poggio Mirteto was founded from the area of the diocese of Rieti , the diocese of Sabina and the abbey of San Salvatore Maggiore . On June 3, 1925, the Diocese of Sabina and the Diocese of Poggio Mirteto were combined to form the "Diocese of Sabina and Poggio Mirteto". On September 30, 1986, the name was changed by Pope John Paul II to its current form ("Diocese of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto").
