Bjorn Schulz

Björn Schulz (born June 14, 1967 ) is a brigadier general of the Army of the German Armed Forces and the commander of Panzerbrigade 12 " Oberpfalz " in Cham .

Military career

Training and first uses

Schulz joined the Bundeswehr in 1988 as a conscript in the 2nd Company of the 22nd Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Braunschweig . From 1988 to 1991 he completed his training as an officer in the armored infantry troops in Braunschweig, Munster and Lüneburg . He then studied political science from 1991 to 1995 at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . After completing this degree, he worked from 1995 to 2001 as platoon leader in the 3rd / Panzergrenadier Battalion 401 in Hagenow and as a company commander of the 2nd / Panzergrenadier Battalion 381 in Bad Frankenhausen . From 2001 to 2003 Schulz was a participant in the general staff course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

The first employment as a staff officer led Schulz from 2003 to 2005 in the command staff of the armed forces in Bonn . This was followed by a transfer to Boostedt , where from 2005 to 2007 he was G3 staff officer (deployment and planning) and chief of staff of Panzer Brigade 18 " Holstein " . From 2007 to 2009 Schulz was again in leadership responsibility as commander of the Panzer Grenadier Training Battalion 92 in Munster. Subsequently, from 2009 to 2012 he was deployed as head of the operational planning department of the Army Command in Koblenz . From 2012 to 2014 Schulz was course director of the 9th general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr. From 2014 to 2016 he was employed as Chief of Staff of the 1st Armored Division in Hanover and after its relocation to Oldenburg . From 2016 to 2017 Schulz was Chief of Staff of the Train Advise Assist Command North of the Resolute Support Mission in Mazar-i Sharif ( Afghanistan ) on an international assignment . This was followed by a ministerial assignment from 2017 to 2019 as Head of Division Strategy and Operations II 1 (Military Policy and Operations Asia, Oceania and America) at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin

Service as a general

Since April 4, 2019, Schulz, as the successor to Brigadier General Jörg See , has been in command of Tank Brigade 12 "Upper Palatinate" in Cham. In this post he himself was promoted to Brigadier General in February 2020.

Private

Schulz is married and has two children.
