Blackspot (English for black spot , title zone Blanche , French for white region , said dead zone ) is a French - Belgian crime - thriller series by Mathieu Missoffe . It was first broadcast in Belgium on March 9, 2017 on La Une , and in France on April 10 on France 2 . The second season started on La Une on February 4, 2019 and on France 2 on February 11.

Internationally, the first season appeared on Prime Video on January 27, 2018 and the second season on June 14, 2019 on Netflix .

Since the French city of Villefranche, which is remote in a dead zone surrounded by 20,000 hectares of forest in the Vosges , has six times more murders than anywhere else in the area, prosecutor Franck Siriani, who at the same time comes out on a personal vengeance on Mayor Steiner is in town to see the work of the police, which consists of only three policemen, to see Major Laurène Weiss. Twenty years ago she was kidnapped and chained in the forest, whereupon she had to cut off two fingers herself to free herself, and she still goes in search of the kidnapper at night. The mayor's daughter has also been missing for six months and is finally found dead at the end of the first season. While Laurène's daughter Cora discovers and joins the environmental activist group “Children of Arduinna ”, who protect the forest against the machinations of Steiner's father, in the second season Laurène's search leads her to the Celtic god Cernunnos , the horned lord of the forest Animals.

The shooting of the first season took place from June 2016 in the municipality of Gérardmer and the Vosges . The Département Vosges supported the production with 60,000 euros.

Before it was broadcast on television, the first season was presented in February 2017 at the Luchon Film Festival , where it received several awards, and was shown at the Berlin International Film Festival .

In May 2017 for the finale of the French broadcast, producer Vincent Mouluquet announced that the second season was already being written and that the series would be four or five seasons from the start.

Prime Video acquired the exclusive rights to stream the series globally outside of Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg and the Netherlands in November 2017, making it the first French series to be released globally by the streaming platform.

In April 2018, a few days before filming began, the second season and the cast of a new main character by Marina Hands was announced.
