Bo Lidegaard (born January 23, 1958 in Nuuk , Greenland ) is a Danish diplomat , politician , writer and journalist who received the Søren Gyldendal Prize in 2003 and was editor-in-chief of the daily Politiken from 2011 to 2016 after completing his diplomatic career . Christian Jensen was his successor .

Life

After attending school, Lidegaard studied history and graduated in 1984 with a master's degree in contemporary history . He then joined the Foreign Service in 1984 and was initially head of a section in the Foreign Ministry before he was Secretary of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva from 1987 to 1990 . On his return he was again head of a section in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then between 1994 and 1996 research scientist at the Danish Royal Library in Copenhagen . After his subsequent work as a secretary to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Folketing he acquired in 1997 through its promotion a doctorate from the University of Copenhagen . He was then from 1997 to 2000 Counselor at the Embassy in France and at the same time from 1998 to 2000 Permanent Representative of Denmark to UNESCO in Paris . On his return he was again a research scientist at the Danish Royal Library before he was head of the Department for the Middle East , the Gulf States , North Africa and Latin America at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 2003 and 2005 .

He was then Permanent Undersecretary of State in the rank of Ambassador for Foreign and Security Policy in the office of Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and then from 2007 to 2011 Permanent Undersecretary of State in the rank of Ambassador for Climate Change to the Prime Minister.

On April 26, 2011, he succeeded Tøger Seidenfaden, who died at the end of January 2011, as editor-in-chief of the daily Politiken .

Publications and Awards

In addition to his long diplomatic career, Lidegaard has written numerous specialist books dealing with Danish foreign policy and well-known political figures and diplomats such as Povl Bang-Jensen , Jens Otto Krag and Hans Christian Svane Hansen . In 2003 he was awarded the Søren Gyldendal Prize for the two-volume biography of Jens Otto Krag. In addition, he was knight first class of the Dannebrog Order in 2004 .
