Career
Girard appeared late in the ice hockey business. As a 25-year-old he had played for the As de Amqui in the Ligue de hockey senior du Québec (LHSQ) before he was signed as a free agent by the California Golden Seals from the National Hockey League (NHL) before the 1973/74 season was. But before they brought the winger into the NHL, the Golden Seals first used him in their farm teams . So he first played a few games for the Charlotte Checkers in the Southern Hockey League (SHL). He was then active in the same season for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles . He wore their jersey until the end of the 1974/75 season , after he had moved with the franchise from the Western Hockey League (WHL) to the Central Hockey League (CHL) in the summer of 1974 .
With the beginning of the game year 1975/76 Girard was finally in the squad of the California Golden Seals and completed his first NHL season at the age of 27, in which he was used 80 times and collected a remarkable 42 scorer points . In August 1976 he moved the franchise from California to Cleveland , Ohio , where it continued gaming under the name Cleveland Barons . After the attacker's offensive yield halved at the end of the 1976/77 season and he disappointed with only four assists in the first 26 games of the following season, a transfer to the Washington Capitals followed in December 1977 . Together with a second-round suffrage in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft , he moved there in exchange for Walt McKechnie .
In the US capital, Girard regained a foothold in the league and collected 23 points in 52 games over the rest of the season. He improved this value by one point in the following season, but he needed almost 30 more games. For the 1979/80 season , the offensive player was finally given up by the Capitals to their farm team, the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League (AHL). There he ended his last professional playing time in North America by winning the Calder Cup . The winger then ended his career for a year in Switzerland, where he played for HC Lugano in the National League B (NLB).
Girard died in November 2017 at the age of 69 in L'Épiphanie in his home province of Québec .
