Bogislaw Christian Karl von Kurnatowski (born April 3, 1754 on Feuerstein near Lissa , Greater Poland , † October 5, 1826 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian major general and most recently in command of the Königsberg fortress .

Life

His parents were the country gentleman Maximilian von Kurnatowski and his wife Helene Luise, née von Lossow . His brother Franz Alexander was a Junker in Hussar Regiment No. 8 .

Military career

Kurnatowski was employed in 1779 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Billerbeck" of the Prussian army . On September 30, 1784 he came as a second lieutenant in the grenadier battalion "Baehr" . After the dissolution of the grenadier battalions, Kurnatowski was transferred to Fusilier Battalion No. 12 (1st East Prussian Fusilier Brigade) on June 1, 1787 and promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 30, 1790 . On January 15, 1795, he was transferred as a staff captain to the fusilier battalion No. 11, where Kurnatowski was promoted to captain and company commander on February 4, 1800 . In the Fourth Coalition War he was wounded in a battle near Waltersdorf, but later fought again near Königsberg.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Kurnatowski was not dismissed, but was able to remain in Prussian service at his own initiative. He was promoted to major on August 21, 1807 and appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion in the 1st East Prussian Infantry Regiment on January 22, 1808 . On February 15, 1810 he took over the 1st Battalion. During the campaign of 1812 Kurnatowski took part in the battles at Bärenkrug, Eckau, Mesothen and Ruhenthal. In the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Katzbach , Leipzig and in the battles near Merseburg, Colditz, Königswartha (wounded), Haynau , Löwenberg, Goldberg and Freyburg on the Unstrut. He also took part in the transition at Wartenburg and in the battles at St. Dizier , La Chaussee, Chalons, Chateau Thierry , and then the battles at Laon and Paris . During that time he became a lieutenant colonel on August 11, 1813 with a patent on August 25, 1813 and a colonel on April 3, 1814 . In addition, Kurnatowski was promoted to commander of the 1st Infantry Regiment on August 24, 1814. In Bautzen he had acquired the Iron Cross II. Class, for Paris he received the Cross I Class, the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class.

After the war, Kurnatowski was transferred to Königsberg as a commander on April 1, 1817 with a salary of 1200 thalers and two rations. On June 6, 1818 he was promoted to major general and in the same year he received the Russian Order of Saint Anne . On July 24, 1825, he received the service cross before he died on October 5, 1826 in Königsberg.

family

Kurnatowski married Karoline von Rhein (* 1775) in 1790, but the marriage was divorced on June 25, 1819. The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Karl (* 1795), died of the wounds preserved at Großgörschen
  • Amalie Wilhelmine Franziska (born November 24, 1797)
