The urban area also includes several river islands, including Île Provost, Île Isaïe-Locas, Île de Mai, Île Morris, Île Thibault and Île Lefebvre. On the opposite side of the river is the Île Jésus . history
In 1683, the French King Louis XIV entrusted the officer Michel-Sidrac Dugué de Boisbriand with an extensive seigneurie on the north bank of the Rivière des Mille Îles. The settlement of today's urban area began in 1740, and the parish was founded in 1789. By splitting off from the city of Sainte-Thérèse , the new municipality of Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest was created in 1946. In the 1960s, numerous Hasidic Jews began to settle in the strictly orthodox Kiryas Tosh movement, who now make up over a tenth of the population. In 1970 the municipality was granted city status, but a year later had to cede a significant part of its territory to the newly created city of Mirabel , where the construction of the Mirabel international airport was planned. In 1974 the community was renamed Boisbriand. The city has been a member of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal association since 2000 .

On the southern outskirts of the city, Autoroute 13 branches off towards Laval . Route 117 , a main road of supraregional importance, runs along the north-eastern city limits . The city is served by several CIT Laurentides bus routes. These lead to the train station in Sainte-Thérèse (connection to AMT local trains to Montreal and Saint-Jérôme ) and to the metro station Montmorency in Laval.
From 1966 to 2002 General Motors operated an automobile plant , the Sainte-Thérèse Assembly , which is partially located in the urban area of Boisbriand . There were Buick - Chevrolet - and Oldsmobile models manufactured; it was the only Canadian automobile plant outside of Ontario .
