Bordeira is a village and a municipality in the south of Portugal , in the western Algarve . It is part of the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina .

history

Finds prove a settlement back to the Paleolithic . The independent parish of Bordeira was founded in 1464 by the bishop of Silves and incorporated into the district of Vila do Bispo . In 1861 she came to Aljezur County, only to become Lagos County when it was dissolved in 1895 . Since 1908 Bordeira is again a municipality of Aljezurs.

Beaches and sights

Praia do Amado

Bordeira has two beaches:

The parish church of Bordeira was built in 1746 and survived the earthquake of 1755 . The church building, simple from the outside, surprises with its baroque interior. The high and side altars are decorated with wood carvings. There is a Manueline stone portal next to the church .

In the village of Carrapateira there is a fortress from 1673, which served to defend the coast against the Moorish pirates from what is now Morocco .

The Maritime and Local History Museum Museu do Mar e da Terra on Rua do Pescador in Carrapateira opened in 2008.
