Borehamwood (also Boreham Wood ) is a town in southern Hertfordshire about 20 km north of central London . It is part of the Borough of Hertsmere . According to the 2011 census, the city has 31,065 inhabitants. The eastern arm of Tykes Water flows through Borehamwood.
history
The town was formerly part of the Elstree Historic Parish . Borehamwood is going through a big change right now. Hundreds of new houses have been built in the city in the past five years. Many companies were based in the area or expanded their buildings and shops. Borehamwood has seen a large influx of Jewish families in recent years and a Jewish high school has been established.

To the west of the city is a train station on the Midland Main Line , which is served by Thameslink trains. In addition, the English trunk road A1 runs through Borehamwood and has its own junction there.
Film industry
The city has been home to various English film studios since the 1920s . Many of the final shots of a film were shot in the streets of Borehamwood, which is why the city was nicknamed British Hollywood . Most of the film studios have since closed, only two are still based in the city ( MGM and Millennium Studios ). The studios in and around Borehamwood have filmed films such as Moby Dick , Indiana Jones (parts one through three) and Star Wars . Today in town Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and Big Brother produces.
Important companies
Borehamwood is the UK headquarters of the fast food giant Pizza Hut . Other large resident firms are Barclays and Alstom . Until 2003, the city was also the headquarters of the mobile operator Mercury One2One for some time . After being sold to Deutsche Telekom , however, it was renamed T-Mobile UK and relocated to Hatfield .
Sports
Borehamwood is home to King George's Field, where the Arsenal FC women's team , Boreham Wood FC and Watford FC reserve team play their championship games.

Borehamwood's twin cities are Offenburg in Baden-Württemberg (Germany) and Fontenay-aux-Roses in Île-de-France (France).
