Boris Avramowitsch Kuznetsov ( Russian Бори́с Авра́мович Кузнецо́в ; born March 19, 1944 in Kirow ) is a Russian lawyer . He originally worked for the police for 20 years as a detective inspector and only later became a lawyer, drawing attention to himself through his representation and defense in spectacular and internationally known legal cases. Since 2007 he has been in exile in the United States for fear of possible stalking by the Russian secret service .

Known legal cases

Boris Kuznetsov represented contrary mandates in Russia and achieved relatively great wealth through his work.

He represented the Rear Admiral Yuri Klimtschugin , which according to court decision a boat space to 4,515,000 US dollars under the market value is said to have sold 2002 of espionage accused scientist Igor Sutyagin and former advisor to former Russian President Boris Yeltsin , Pavel Borodin against which the Switzerland the extradition was requested, because he was accused in a bribery scandal involving two Swiss construction companies and the money laundering of being involved of $ 25 million.

He defended the 1991 KGB Major General Oleg Kalugin in proceedings against the Soviet Party leader Mikhail Gorbachev , former Vice- board chef of Unikumbank, Andrej Gloriosow that about 231 million US dollars to have omitted which for the crediting of India on the purchase of MiG 29 - were destined for fighter jets , and the human rights activist Manana Aslamasjan , head of the West-funded Internews foundation , and later the family of the murdered journalist Anna Politkovskaya . This mandate was after the flight taken over by Boris Kuznetsov Anna Stawizkaja (* 1972).

The best-known case was probably the representation of 55 survivors from 2001 to 2006 in the case of the Kursk nuclear submarine, which sank in the Barents Sea in mid-August 2000, against the high command of the Russian naval fleet , whereby it was not a matter of material compensation, but of complete investigation the sinking of the submarine .

Reasons for flight and exile

In 2006 Boris Kuznetsov represented the former Federal Senator from Kalmykia Province , Levon Tschachmachtschjan , who was arrested in February and suspected of having fraudulently received $ 300,000 from the head of Transaero Airlines and of having been promised a further $ 1.2 million. Boris Kuznetsov, as his lawyer, applied to the Russian Constitutional Court to recognize the Supreme Court's decision of May 23, 2006, to be allowed to wiretap Chakhmachan, as illegal. The court rejected Kuznetsov's application because of lack of jurisdiction and forwarded documents to the Russian secret service . Shortly thereafter, Kuznetsov's lawyer immunity was lifted and he himself was charged on July 11 for divulging state secrets.

The Moscow Bar Association stood behind Kuznetsov and its president, Genri Resnik, said that Kuznetsov had not disclosed any state secret , that his persecution was exclusively "political in nature", "a revenge on an uncomfortable lawyer and at the same time a message to all Russian lawyers".
