Borja Vidal Fernández Fernández (born December 25, 1981 in Valdés (Asturias) , Spain ) is a Qatari handball and former basketball player of Spanish origin.

Career

The 2.06 m tall Borja Vidal played for Joventut Badalona from 1999 to 2001 , for Club Melilla Baloncesto from 2001 to 2002 , for Bilbao Basket from 2002 to 2003 , for Basket Napoli from 2003 to 2004 and for CAI Saragossa from 2004 to 2005 .

Handball

In 2005 Vidal decided to play handball. There it is used in the rotary position. With BM Aragón he reached the finals in the 2006/07 EHF Cup , in which he lost to SC Magdeburg after a draw in his own hall in the second leg . He then moved to Algeciras BM . After a season he joined SD Teucro . Via CB Torrevieja he came to HBC Nantes in France in 2011 , with whom he again lost to a German team in the 2012/13 EHF Europa Pokal final, this time the Rhein-Neckar Löwen . He has been playing for the Qatari club Al-Qiyada since 2013 .

Borja Vidal was naturalized in the run-up to the 2015 World Handball Championship in Qatar. Under his former coach at Aragón, Valero Rivera , and alongside other international stars like Danijel Šarić , he reached the final against France with victories over Austria in the second round, Germany in the quarterfinals and Poland in the semifinals. Previously, Vidal took part in the 2014 Asian Games with Qatar , where he and his team won the gold medal. In 2016 he won the Asian Cup with Qatar . He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
