The water has a total length of 12.5 km. The catchment area extends over parts of five communities in the Herford district. The water rises near Pödinghausen on the city limits of Spenge - Lenzinghausen and flows into the Else near Südlengern (river kilometer 4). In Hiddenhausen the brook feeds the flood ditch of Gut Bustedt at kilometer 4. At kilometer 1.5 the brook crosses the federal motorway 30 . The Bolldammbach, which flows through the center of Engers, overflows its banks when it rains heavily and floods the Enger Bruch nature reserve .

The stream touches or flows through three nature reserves on its way:

  • The 20 hectare Bustedter Holz nature reserve is located in the Bünder district of Bustedt and borders the Bustedter Wiesen nature reserve. It is primarily a near-natural beech forest that is protected, but also other tree species. In the densely populated Herford district, the area is one of the few large forests.
  • The Bustedter Wiesen nature reserve is located in a wide valley basin of the Brandbach between Bünde and Hiddenhausen. The area is also a flood retention basin. The wet meadow biotopes in the Bachtal and flora and fauna in the adjacent ponds are particularly worthy of protection. The Biology Center of Gut Bustedt borders on the area, which in turn is included in the concept of the center. The area is 82.3 hectares in total and consists of 57.5 hectares of nature reserve and an area of around 25 hectares that is used by the biology center.
  • The Enger Bruch is located near Enger and Pödinghausen on the Bolldammbach and has a size of 55 hectares, of which around half are owned by the state. Large areas of the lowland area and its green spaces are often flooded. The fauna worthy of protection relates to the large sedge reeds that can be found , field trees, fat meadows and pastures, small bodies of water, tall herbaceous meadows, ditches, reed areas and hedge areas. The grassland areas provide a valuable habitat for numerous meadow and wading birds, amphibians, dragonflies and butterflies. The break is of outstanding importance for the bird world in the Ravensberger Land.
