Braunhausen is a district of the city of Bebra in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in the northeast of Hesse .

The district of Braunhausen is located northeast of the core town of Bebra in the Bebratal , part of the Richelsdorf Mountains . In the west of the village is the Braunhäuser Tunnel , a former rail tunnel on the north-south route from Hanover to Frankfurt am Main.

Braunhausen was first mentioned in a document from 1252. In 1939 the village had 206 inhabitants. At that time it belonged to the Rotenburg district . As part of the Hessian regional and administrative reform , Braunhausen was incorporated into the city of Bebra on December 31, 1971 .
