Solz is a district of the town of Bebra in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in the northeast of Hesse .

location

The Solz district is located northeast of the core town of Bebra in the Richelsdorf Mountains .

history

Solz was first mentioned in a document from 960 as "villa Sulzaha". The name "Sulza" is used in documents in 1146. The place name probably has its origin in connection with the salt trade (Sulta - old Lower Franconian for brine, salt water) or the reference to a brook that has its source here (Sulzaha - swamp water, mud water, swell salt water).

In 1252 the name of the von Trott zu Solz family was mentioned in connection with Solz , who have probably been based on the castle complex - which can still be recognized in the basic structures - since 1200 at the latest. In 1332 Berthold Trott (called "Bodo", knight and castle man of Rotenburg) was named as a feudal bearer of the Hersfeld Abbey in Solz, where there were, however, other feudal recipients, e. B. Bernicke, von Hohenfels , von Witerde and von Wallenstein (at Wallenstein Castle , descendants of the Counts of Schauenburg ). It was not until 1506 that all of Solz became the sole fief of the Trotten.

The fiefdom of the von Trotts was extended around 1500. The area of Solz, Imshausen, Wildeck, the farms Boxerode, Gunkelrode, Mosebach and Bodenthal, the villages of Suess, Diemerode, Breitau, Lispenhausen, Niederellenbach, Schwarzenhasel and Ersrode were part of it and formed a separate aristocratic court. The field name "Am Galgenberg" testifies to this time. The Trottenburg was rebuilt as a half-timbered building after the Thirty Years War in 1672 , only a part of the facade facing the courtyard comes from the older Renaissance building .

BW

At the end of the 17th century, part of the property of the "Trotten" went to the family of the imperial barons von Verschuer , who, among other things, took up residence in a mansion from 1527, located below the church. Both families exercised lower jurisdiction until 1826 and are still resident in the village with their own estates.

In 1939 the village had 640 inhabitants. At that time it belonged to the Rotenburg district . As part of the Hessian territorial and administrative reform , Solz was incorporated into the city of Bebra on December 31, 1971 .

Others

There has been a toy museum in the village since 1990. It was closed on Pentecost 2014.
