Bree A. Schaaf , temporarily during their marriage as Bree Schaaf Boyer (born May 28, 1980 in Bremerton ) is an American sports journalist and former skeleton and bobsleigh pilot .
Bree Schaaf lives in Huntington Beach . She graduated from Portland State University and played volleyball there . The course, which she graduated with honors as a bachelor's degree in anthropology , was made possible by a volleyball scholarship.
Schaaf's trainers were Orvie Garrett and Troy Engel. She has been driving skeleton since 2002 and has been a member of the US national team since 2006. In 2003 Schaaf was fifth in the US championships. In November 2004 she first competed in a skeleton European Cup race at an international event in Igls and finished eleventh. She then competed in various races in the Europe and America's Cup and was often able to place in the top ranks. In the overall ranking of the European Cup of the 2005/06 season , the American was second behind Marion Trott . At the end of November 2006, Bree Schaaf made his debut in Calgary in the Skeleton World Cup . In her first race she achieved her best result, a sixth place. The Appreciation 2006/07 she finished in 12th.
After the season, Schaaf switched from skeleton to bobsleigh. Here she made her debut in Park City in January 2008 in the America's Cup, the racing series under the World Cup, and only had to admit defeat to the Canadian Amanda Stepenko . In the following races she mostly finished on the podium or just a little behind. She celebrated her first win in November of that year in Calgary. In February 2009 the American competed in her first race in the Bobsleigh World Cup on the Whistler Olympic track and immediately achieved a top result in sixth place. A week later she achieved an even better result in Park City. At the 2009 Bobsleigh World Championships in Lake Placid , Schaaf and her push-puller Emily Azevedo took tenth place. At the end of the season she won a race with Tracy Call in the America's Cup in Lake Placid and came second. In January 2010 , she drove with Eric Bernotas , John Napier , TJ Burns , Ingrid Marcum and Noelle Pikus-Pace on the podium for the first time in third place in the team competition in Königssee. The high point of the season was the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canmore , where she finished fifth with her pusher Azevedo.
The 2010-11 season began with a win in a race in the America's Cup in Park City. After a mixed season without outstanding results, Schaaf and Azevedo finished ninth at the World Championships at Königssee, and with the USA I team she was only tenth. The following season was similarly mixed, with Schaaf / Azevedo finishing twelfth at the 2012 Bobsleigh World Championship in Lake Placid. The next races only followed at the start of the following season in the America's Cup in Park City, where Schaaf and her new pusher Kristi Koplin won both races. There were three more wins in Calgary and two wins in Lake Placid. So she won all seven races of the season in which she competed. In November 2013 she started again for five America's Cup races in Calgary and Park City, with a second, two third and two fourth places. Schaaf was substitute for the US bobsleigh team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . After the season she ended her career.
Schaaf has been working for Universal Sports Network as a commentator on bobsleigh and skeleton races since 2009 . She also worked as an expert and commentator for NBC during the 2014 Olympic Games . Currently (2017) she is commenting on the live stream that is broadcast worldwide on the FIL website.
