geography
Bremen is about 10 km south of Buchanan and about 60 km west of Atlanta .
history
The city, founded on September 5, 1883, was first called Kramer and was later renamed Bremen. The name Kramer came from an immigrant who owned a winery there, but the name was changed to "Bremen" at Kramer's request to commemorate the German city of Bremen .
There was a major economic boom when the Chattanooga, Rome and Columbus Railroad was built to cross the Georgia Pacific Railway in Bremen. This and other circumstances helped Bremen grow from a small railroad junction populated by German immigrants to the largest city in Haralson County, Georgia.
The city is the birthplace of Tom Murphy , a politician and speaker for the Georgia State House of Representatives.
