Brian Stokes Mitchell (born October 31, 1957 in Seattle , Washington ) is an American actor and singer . He sings the baritone and has performed on Broadway since the early 1990s . In 2002 he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his appearance in Kiss Me, Kate .

Life

Mitchell was born in Seattle , Washington , the youngest of four children of electronics engineer George Mitchell and his wife, Lillian, a school administrator. Mitchell grew up on various US military bases overseas, where his father was a civil engineer for the US Navy. As a teenager, he lived in San Diego , California where he began playing in school musicals. He didn't go to college after starting professional performance in high school, despite having private tutors in acting and singing in his teenage years. According to his own statement, he studied film music, orchestration and conducting at UCLA .

He has been married to actress Allyson Tucker since 1994 and has a son, Ellington, with her.

Mitchell first appeared on Broadway in 1988 in the Musical Mail, with music by Michael Rupert and lyrics by Jerry Colker, and won the Theater World Award.

Playbill Records released his first solo CD on June 6, 2006, "Brian Stokes Mitchell". Mitchell also performed a Christmas concert with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir , which was later released on CD and DVD entitled Ring Christmas Bells . His second solo CD, "Simply Broadway", was released on October 30, 2012 on CD Baby .

Mitchell had a number of television and film appearances, including the role of John Dolan in Roots: The Next Generations (1979) and a seven-year role as Dr. Justin 'Jackpot' Jackson on Trapper John, MD from 1979 to 1986. Mitchell starred several times as a celebrity in episodes of $ 25,000 Pyramid and $ 100,000 Pyramid during the 1980s and was considered one of the game's better celebrities. He played recurring roles as Hilary Banks' newscaster and fiance Trevor Newsworthy / Collins in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and in Frasier as Dr. Frasier Cranes neighbor and nemesis Cam Winston. He sang the voice of Jethro in the cartoon The Prince of Egypt (1998). In 2002 Mitchell played a leading role in the Christmas film Just Call Me Nicholas . In 2010 he played the role of Wilhelmina Slater's ex-boyfriend, Don, in Ugly Betty .

He appeared in the 57th episode of Glee with the title "Heart" and the 58th with the title "On My Way" as one of Rachel's fathers (LeRoy) along with Jeff Goldblum .

He plays the role of Scott Knowles, CTO of E Corp. in the USA Network series Mr. Robot . The series began in June 2015.
