Brick Bath was an American crossover band from San Diego , California that was founded in 1996 under the name Epitaph and disbanded in 2006.

history

The band was formed in 1996, previously known as the Epitaph. The band first reached a record deal with Chainsaw Records . However, since the label had to declare its bankruptcy, the group lost their contract. As a result, the already recorded and mixed album Scarred remained unreleased. Nevertheless, the group was able to hold performances with Stuck Mojo , Forbidden , Exodus , Testament , Flotsam and Jetsam and Crowbar . After bassist Pete Stone joined the cast, the name was changed to Brick Bath.

Jole Maitoza , who had previously worked for 24-7 Spyz , worked for her as manager . In the early 2000s, the band signed a contract with Crash Music , which in 2002 released their debut album I Won't Live the Lie , which was produced by guitarist Eric Meyer. After the release in February, it went on tour through the USA and Europe in the summer . The second album, Rebuilt , was released the following year. In 2003 the band consisted of singer Cody Hubbard, who had replaced Joseph McCaw, guitarist Eric Meyer, bassist Pete Stone and drummer Scott Babbel. McCaw had previously left the band in September 2002. While their third album, American Currency , was recorded in July 2004, the band split from bassist Stone, who was replaced by Scott "Rock" Rockstead. The album was released in 2005. In December 2006, Norm Leggio joined as the new drummer. In the same year, however, the band broke up.

style

According to Allmusic's Alex Henderson , the band plays metalcore, which is made up of aggressive alternative metal and punk . She is influenced by Suicidal Tendencies , Pantera and Dark Angel . The music is characterized by "chugging" guitars, angry lyrics and tortured sounding screams . In contrast to many other bands in the genre, however, the songs have hooklines and structure. In his Nu Metal and Crossover Lexicon, Christian Graf described the music as a mixture of Power , Groove and Thrash Metal, which followed in the footsteps of Pantera and Testament and had a slight Nu-Metal influence . Martin Popoff compared I Won't Live the Lie in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 4: The '00s with Pantera and biohazard-like hardcore punk, where the music for Thrash Metal from the San Francisco Bay Area is traditionally based on riffs . However, the music of bands such as Pissing Razors is less comparable. Rebuilt can be classified between works by Brand New Sin , God Forbid and Shadows Fall . The group combines modern and extreme metal styles. Sometimes they only play hardcore punk, then a crossover of hardcore punk, then old-school -Thrash metal, then metal in the style of Pantera or Stuck Mojo and another time at New Orleans - Sludge ajar. The band also process elements from Nu Metal, Grindcore and Death Metal . American Currency is lyrically intense and biting hardcore punk and raw metal . With this sound carrier, too, he again made a Pantera comparison.
