Buchholz ( Italian Pochi ) is a fraction of the municipality of Salurn in South Tyrol , Italy .
geography
The village is located on the eastern slope of the Adige Valley at around 565 m above sea level on a low mountain range , around two kilometers northeast of Salurn in the South Tyrolean lowlands . The landscape of Buchholz is characterized by scattered individual farms . In the flatter areas, viticulture and fruit growing are dominant, with increasing altitude, in particular, meadow areas are found. On the steeper slopes there are strips of forest, in which sweet chestnuts are particularly common. North of the village is the Madruttberg , which is part of the Trudner Horn Nature Park . The Dürerweg leads past the village, which leads from Neumarkt to Segonzano in Trentino .
history
Buchholz was settled as early as the Bronze Age, as is shown by finds at the parish church. The place was also settled in Roman times. In 1494 Albrecht Dürer passed Buchholz on his first trip to Italy to Venice . Because of the flooded Salurner Klause, Dürer was forced to take the arduous route over the mountains. In the second half of the 20th century, the site expanded considerably due to the construction of second homes, which had a negative impact on the landscape and socio-economic structure.
Attractions
The late Gothic parish church of St. Ursula from the 16th century with a Romanesque church tower from a previous building from the first half of the 14th century, which is a listed building, is worth seeing .
