Buck Young
John Otto "Buck" Young (born April 12, 1920 in Los Angeles , California ; † February 9, 2000 there ) was an American actor .
Life
Young began his career in 1953 with an uncredited role in Otto Preminger's drama Angel Face . This was followed by a number of episode roles in various television series, and a few other small film roles without credit . In 1958 he got the recurring role of Deputy Buck Johnson in the western series U.S. Marshal with John Bromfield in the title role. In the following years he appeared several times, but in changing roles, in the long-lived western series Smoking Colts . This was followed by the role of Sergeant Whipple on the sitcom Gomer Pyle: USMC, which he played in ten episodes from 1964 to 1966. The 1966 comedy Finger Away From My Wife first featured Young in one of the credits, over a decade after starting his career. He played a major supporting role in Sturm auf Höhe 404 from the following year. The remainder of the 1960s was dominated by television appearances, with several appearances in My Three Sons , Lancer , A Cage Full of Heroes, and The People at Shiloh Ranch .
He continued his humble but steady career in the 1970s. He appeared in eight episodes of FBI , four episodes of Lou Grant , three episodes each of MASH , Emergency California and Project UFO , and two episodes of The Streets of San Francisco . His only notable film role from the 1970s, he played alongside Joe Don Baker in the action film Mitchell .
Young appeared in two popular series of the 1980s with Ein Colt just in case and Simon & Simon , and he also had episode roles in TJ Hooker , An Angel on Earth and Hill Street Police Station , among others . His last role was in 1992 in an episode of Columbo , ending a career of almost four decades with well over a hundred credits in the shadow of the big stars.
Young was married to actress Peggy Stewart from 1953 until his death in February 2000 . His brother-in-law was the actor Wayne Morris .
