history

Indirect evidence suggests that Budeşti existed since 1450 at the latest. The first written mention of the village took place in 1521. Budeşti was characterized by agriculture for a long time. In the 19th century - still at the time of the Ottoman rule - the village belonged to the Mano family, who came from Italy and some of them lived in Istanbul . They built a castle in Budeşti, which was largely demolished during the communist era for building materials.

1977 Budeşti was partially destroyed by an earthquake .

In 1989 the place received the status of a city. The most important branches of industry are agriculture and the production of plastic and parquet floors.

population

In 1930 about 5500 people lived in the area of today's city. In the 2002 census, 9,702 inhabitants were registered, of which about 4,300 in Budeşti, the rest in the incorporated villages. Of these, 7660 were Romanians and 2038 Roma in Romania . This makes Budeşti one of the cities in Romania with the largest proportion of Roma.

In 2006 the village of Crivăț was spun off from the city, so that the population decreased accordingly.

Budești is on the railway line from Bucharest to Oltenița . In 2009, only about two local trains ran in both directions a day. There are regular bus connections to Bucharest. The main road Drum național DN4 also runs through the village .
