The remains of Abensberg Castle are in the town of Abensberg at Aventinusplatz 6 in the Lower Bavarian district of Kelheim . The core of the moated castle was built in the Middle Ages and is now a protected architectural monument .

The Abensberg castle was first mentioned in 1256. The roughly rectangular layout of the outer bailey is separated from the main castle by a deep moat . On the north and west side there are baroque buildings, former official buildings with pitched roofs . The flanking tower on the northeast corner comes from the 13th / 14th centuries. Century. A late Gothic semicircular tower stands on the southern Bering , next to it a front building with a mansard roof . After the destruction during the Thirty Years War, only remnants of the 13th / 14th of the main castle remain. Century. Remains of the circular wall , the flanking towers, the kennel and a hipped roof on the south side have also been preserved.

The city ​​fortifications built in the 14th and 15th centuries were connected to the castle fortifications.
