The castle ruin Tachenstein , also called Dachenstein, is the ruin of a spur castle in the district of the town of Riedenburg in the Kelheim district in Bavaria .
Geographical location
The castle ruins are located directly west of the core town of Riedenburg in the eastern part of the Altmühltal nature park on the south-east facing foothills of the Jägerberg ( 476 m above sea level ) at around 440 to 450 m above sea level. NN . Below the wooded ridge, the Danube tributary Altmühl flows through Riedenburg.
history
The castle was probably built by the Counts of Riedenburg or their heirs, the Wittelsbachers . In the 16th century the castle was already in ruins. Of the former castle complex, the 10 meter high ruin of the keep with the high entrance behind the former shield wall on an area of around 7.5 by 7.5 meters, made of humpback ashlar, as well as the neck ditch carved into the rock are still preserved .
