The Lanckorona Castle ( German Castle Landskrone) is a fortress on the hill Lanckorońska Góra (552 m) in Pogórze Wielickie , in Lanckorona in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .
history
In 1274 during the period of Polish particularism , the western Skawinka River became the border between the Duchy of Ratibor-Opole and the Duchy of Krakow . The hilltop castle , first mentioned in 1359 as the Landiscoronese castrum , protected the border of Poland against the Duchy of Auschwitz , which was under the feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia since 1327 , opposite the Silesian castle Barwałd mentioned in 1427 . The German name Lanckorona means land crown, but the first mention of the name of the city of Lanczkoruna (1366) is Polonized.
From the later 14th / early 15th century until the partitions of Poland , the castle was the seat of a Starostei in the Szczyrzyc district in the Kraków Voivodeship . In 1410 it comprised 16 villages.
The castle played an important role in the Bar Confederation . In the years 1769 to 1771, three battles were fought for the castle, the battle of Lanckorona on May 23, 1771 playing the most important role.
In 1774 there were 30 localities and 5 suburbs in addition to the city . It was nationalized by the Habsburgs and sold as three separate goods at auctions.
