Burghofbühne Dinslaken

The Burghofbühne in Dinslaken is one of the four state theaters in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Emerging from a group of actors who played regularly in Dinslaken , including in the ( Burgtheater ), primarily to convey culture to the miners , the Burghofbühne was founded in 1951 by Kathrin Türks and directed for many years as artistic director . The Dinslaken town hall was named after her. The ensemble was later given state theater status.

Well-known actors in the ensemble were or are Folker Bohnet (1950s), Hans Beerhenke (1960s), Karl Brückel , Witta Pohl and Eva Mattes .

In December 2015, the Burghofbühne was put on the Red List by the German Cultural Council and classified in Category 1 (threatened with closure). Thorsten Weckherlin has been director of the Burghofbühne since the beginning of 2004 , replacing his predecessor Christian Alexander Schell.

Although the theater is the smallest with around 20 permanent employees, it is also the most economical of the four state theaters in North Rhine-Westphalia, as it claims that it generates 32% of its budget itself. In addition to the main venue, the ensemble also plays guest performances in over 120 communities throughout North Rhine-Westphalia in order to also provide the population in smaller places with theater culture.

The repertoire of the Burghofbühne ranges from classic plays such as Shakespeare's “ The Funny Wives of Windsor ” to modern works such as “ Die Klatschmohnfrau ” by Noëlle Châtelet to plays from children's and youth theater such as “ Stand up if you are a Schalke ”.
