After Bishop Siegfried II of Hildesheim. 1291 Harliburg besiege and grind left, who built Wernigeroder Graf in 1306 with their stones the Vienenburg. The counts sold them to Bishop Gerhard in 1367 . In 1523 she came to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . Wallenstein conquered Wiedelah from here in 1626 . From 1643 to 1802 it belonged to the Hildesheim Monastery . For his services to the bishopric in 1647, the office of Vienenburg was given to Field Marshal Johannes Ernst Freiherr von Reuschenberg zu Setterich . Until around 1720 the office and the title Drost zu Vienenburg were inherited by the von Reuschenberg family. Some of their sons lived more often at Vienenburg Castle than in their ancestral home, Burg Setterich . During the affiliation to Prussia , however, the castle fell into disrepair and manor buildings were built with the stones. Remains of the keep and the former palace are still present. After restoration in 2010, the 24 meter high keep can now be climbed as a lookout tower .
