The Postal Mühlberg is an Outbound medieval hilltop castle on a outcrop overlooking the valley of Rabe creek . It was on the western edge of the village of Mühlberg in the municipality of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab in Bavaria . The catholic pilgrimage church of St. Anna now stands there in place of the castle .

No historical or archaeological information is known about this castle, it is roughly dated as medieval . Only a remnant of a moat has survived from the former castle. The site is protected as soil monument number D-3-6238-0022 "Medieval castle stables, archaeological findings from the Middle Ages and early modern times in the area of ​​the Catholic pilgrimage church of St. Anna in Mühlberg, including the traces of previous buildings or older building phases".

The castle site of the Spornburg is around 445  m above sea level. NHN Höhe on a wide, west-facing spur that rises around 25  meters above the narrow valley of the Rabenbach, a tributary of the Waldnaab . On the north, west and south sides, the facility was very well protected by nature due to the steep slope of the terrain into the valley. To the east one closes only gently to 472  m above sea level. NHN rising Jura plateau on which the village of Mühlberg is also located. Below the castle site is the west portal of the St 2172 tunnel , which leads through the spur and the plateau.

The pilgrimage church of St. Anna now stands on the site of the former castle; no structural remains have been preserved from the castle. The area on the east side of the castle stable is slightly sunken, this is where the neck ditch of the complex was once located . Today in this ditch lies the western bend of the local thoroughfare and a branch from this, which leads as a forest path to the north into the valley floor. Remnants of the ditch are still vaguely recognizable at its north end on this forest path, at its south end in the parish garden.
