Neuenhammer hammer lock

The listed Hammerschloss Neuenhammer is located in the district of the same name in the Upper Palatinate municipality of Georgenberg von Bavaria (Neuenhammer 1). The hammer mill was operated by the water of the Zottbach .

history

The Neuenhammer has only had its name since 1678. In the 14th century, the Hammersiedlung was still called Ödenmühl (or Öd Mühl ) and was probably created by clearing the Waldsassen monastery . The Neuenhammer was on the old Heerstraße, the early medieval connection from Sulzbach via Luhe to Tachau in Bohemia .

Ulrich der Trautenberger and Konrad Alhart, citizens of Amberg , were hammer masters in Ödenmühl in 1347. In 1387 Konrad Hirssel joined the Upper Palatinate hammer cleaning company with his hammer Ödenmühl . The hammer remained with the respective gentlemen of Waldthurn. The last of these were the princes of Lobkowitz. In 1733 they sold the hammer to Georg Niklas Frank. His heirs owned the hammer until 1833. They were followed by the Rath.

Hammerschloss Neuenhammer today

The former hammer lock is a two-story hipped roof building . There are several dormers in the roof . The construction is five or three axles. The middle projecting tower is covered by an onion dome and stands on two round pillars. On it is the designation "18 FF 08" (the FF is the abbreviation of the name of the owner at the time, Franz Frank). The core of the building dates from the 17th century. The “Hammerwirt” inn is now located in the building.
