Burkhard Blienert
Burkhard Blienert (born March 30, 1966 in Braubach ) is a German SPD politician . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 2013 to 2017 . Since January 12, 2022, he has been the Federal Government Commissioner for Addiction and Drug Issues .
education and profession
After graduating from the Theodorianum in Paderborn , Blienert did his civil service at the AWO district association in Paderborn. At the University of Münster he obtained a master's degree in politics , modern history and sociology . He passed his first state examination for secondary level I in the subjects social sciences and history .
Before becoming a member of the Bundestag, Burkhard Blienert had held various positions in the SPD and its organizations since 1992. During the 2009 election campaign , he was a consultant in the office of then SPD leader Franz Müntefering . Between 2010 and September 2013, Blienert was a consultant for schools and further education, sport and petitions at the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia .
Political career
From 2002 to 2011, Blienert was deputy district chairman of the SPD in the Paderborn district , and in 2011 he was elected district chairman. Blienert has also been a member of the SPD regional executive for Ostwestfalen-Lippe since 2008 , and he is also a deputy member of the SPD party convention.
In the 2013 federal election , Blienert ran as a direct candidate in the Paderborn – Gütersloh III constituency , and entered the 18th German Bundestag via the state list . In the federal elections in 2017 and 2021, he failed to enter the Bundestag.
On January 12, 2022, at the suggestion of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), he was appointed Federal Government Commissioner for Addiction and Drug Issues . Blienert is regarded as an advocate of the legalization of cannabis, a project provided for in the coalition agreement of the traffic light coalition . As early as 2015, when he was a member of the Bundestag, he was responsible for a publication by the SPD working group on drug policy, which defined “the cornerstones of a social democratic drug policy” and called for an end to prohibition.

During the 18th legislative period of the German Bundestag, he was a full member of the Health Committee and the Culture and Media Committee , and a permanent deputy member of the Budget Committee .
He mainly worked in the field of health on the topics of household, drugs and addiction as well as men's health. In the field of culture and media, he held the position of spokesman on film policy for his parliamentary group. His other main areas of work include monument protection, books/publishing/literature, cultural education and social security for those working in culture and the media.
He is a member of the board of directors of the Berlin film promotion agency , a member of the radio council and the economic and financial committee of Deutschlandradio , a member of the board of trustees of the Federal Agency for Civic Education and a deputy member of the board of directors of the German National Library . He is also a member of the German association Law Enforcement Against Prohibition , an association that advocates reform of drug policy.
Blienert was also a member of the German-Polish, German-Dutch and German-Korean parliamentary groups.

Blienert has lived with interruptions in Delbrück since 1968 . He is married and has two children.
