Burkhard C. Kosminski

Burkhard C. Kosminski (born October 19, 1961 in Schwenningen ) is a German director and actor .

Life

Burkhard Kosminski studied directing and acting in New York City at the Lee Strasberg Institute and the William Esper Studio.

Kosminski worked as a director a. a. at the Berlin Schaubühne at the Schauspiel Frankfurt , Theater Dortmund and at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden . From 2001 to 2006 he was the lead director at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . From the 2006/2007 season he was acting director, from May 2013 acting director and operations manager at the Mannheim National Theater . In addition, from 2006 he was artistic director of the International Schiller Days at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. Together with Matthias Lilienthal he was the festival director at Theater der Welt 2014 in Mannheim.

As an actor, Burkhard C. Kosminski appeared in the films Night Train to Venice , The Deflowering and Multiple Futures, among others .

Burkhard C. Kosminski has been artistic director at the Schauspiel Stuttgart since the 2018/19 season .

Productions and awards

Thomas Jonigks You shall give me Grandsons , directed by Kosminski in 1997 in the United States, was awarded the 6th Drama Logue Awards 1997/1998 LA as the most successful production on the West Coast in Los Angeles in 1997.

For his Dortmund production Das Fest based on the film by Thomas Vinterberg , he received the award for best director at the 20th NRW Theatertreffen in 2001. His productions Das Fest , Eine Familie and Talks with Astronauts were nominated for the Berlin Theatertreffen .

In May 2013, following protests from the premiere audience, his Tannhäuser production was canceled by order of the Düsseldorf opera's director , Christoph Meyer , and the opera was only performed in concert . Some scenes, including a realistic shooting scene during which the orchestra paused, caused violent reactions from some of the visitors. Kosminski did not want to make any changes to his staging, but offered a discussion about his directional concept. The international press also reported on the events.

His staging of the drama The Outrageous by Theresia Walser with the Stuttgart Ensemble at the Salzburg Festival 2019 only met with cautious applause from the critics of the national press, which was more due to the "dull text" and not the performance of the actors or the "epicurean set design by Florian Etti "(FAZ).
