Cándido Alves Moreira da Costa (born May 30, 1981 in São João da Madeira ) is a former Portuguese football player . He played a total of 174 games in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and the Romanian Liga 1 .
Career
Born from the youth of Benfica Lisbon , Cândido Costa's career began in 1999 with SC Salgueiros in the Portuguese Primeira Liga . In winter he moved to FC Porto , where he was initially only used in the second team. Before the start of the 2000/01 season , he came into the squad of the first team, but was used there only irregularly.
In order to collect match practice, Costa was loaned out to league rivals Vitória Setúbal in the second half of the 2002/03 season, where he did not prevent relegation to the Liga de Honra account. After returning to Porto, his club again agreed a loan deal - this time with Derby County from the English Football League First Division (at that time still the second highest division). With Derby he just managed to stay in the league.
In the summer of 2004, Costa left Porto and moved to Sporting Braga within the SuperLiga . He was also not used regularly in Braga, so that he moved to league rivals Belenenses Lisbon in the summer of 2006 . While he was initially a regular player there, his appearances later became less frequent. At the same time, the club fell from mid-table in the relegation battle. After relegation could only be avoided due to the forced relegation of Estrela Amadora in the 2008/09 season , Belenenses had to relegate in the following season , with Costa only able to intervene in a third of the games.
For the 2010/11 season he left Portugal and joined the Romanian club Rapid Bucharest . There he could not assert himself and was only used irregularly. In the summer of 2012 he returned to his home country. After a few years with lower-class clubs, he retired in 2015.
