CLAS CLAS-Cajastur |
CLAS-Cajastur is a former Spanish cycling team that existed from 1988 to 1993. The main sponsor was a dairy cooperative from the Spanish region of Asturias Central Lechera Asturiana (CLAS), sole sponsor from 1988 to 1989 and from 1990 to 1993 with Caja de Ahorros de Asturias (Cajastur) (es) an Asturian savings bank as co-sponsor.
history
The team was put together by José Manuel Fuente and he took over the sporting management for a year. For the next few years until the dissolution and merger with Mapei , the team was led by Juan Fernández Martín .
In the early years only smaller races were won and only in 1990 was it possible to achieve greater success with a stage win and a 6th place in the overall ranking of the Vuelta a España . Even greater success came when Tony Rominger joined the team. The biggest are the two round trip victories at the Vuelta a España in 1992 and 1993.
At the end of 1993 the team was dissolved and merged with the Italian team Mapei .
doping
There were only two cases of convicted doping in the team. Here Carlos Muñiz tested positive for caffeine during the Tour of Andalusia in 1990 and Manuel Dominguez tested positive for amineptine at the Vuelta a España in 1992 .
