Callum Burns (born November 23, 1996 ) is an Australian - New Zealand ice hockey player who has been with Southern Stampede since 2012 in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League .

Career

Callum Burns, who has both New Zealand and Australian citizenship, has been playing at the Southern Stampede in Queenstown since the beginning of his career as a hockey player . First he was used in their junior team Southern Juniors in the New Zealand Junior Elite League , where in 2011 he was named the best striker in the league. In the 2012 season he made his debut on the senior team in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League , where he has played since then. In 2015, 2016 and 2017 he was New Zealand national champion with his club. In the southern hemisphere summer of 2015/16 he played for various Swedish clubs, mainly in the junior division, but was also used by the Häradsbygdens SS in the fifth-class division 3 .

International

In the junior division, Burns played with the New Zealand selection at the 2012 U-18 World Championships , 2013 when he was named best player on his team, and 2014 when he was team captain for the Ice Blacks, and the 2013 U-20 World Championships , 2014 and 2015 in Division III. He also took part as a single player in the Skills Challenge of the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games . There he qualified primarily through his good results in the sub-disciplines of shooting accuracy and running agility, in which he took second place in the preliminary fight, for the final round of the best eight players. After he was able to shine again with his shooting accuracy - he even won this partial competition in the final - he finished fourth in the competition with the Japanese bronze medalist Seiya Furukawa behind him.

Burns was nominated for the men's national team for the first time at the 2014 World Cup in Division II. He succeeded in his first World Cup match with the 3-2 opening goal in the 6-3 success against the later relegated Turkey, the first goal in the national jersey. Also in 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 , when he was voted best player on his team, he played with New Zealand in Division II.
