Carl Freese
Carl Friedrich Heinrich Freese , also Karl Freese , (born April 27, 1807 in Stralsund , † April 16, 1892 in Zerbst ) was a German educator and philologist and a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly .
Life
During his studies in 1829 he became a member of the Old Halleschen Burschenschaft Germania . After studying philology and Protestant theology in Greifswald , Leipzig and Halle an der Saale from 1825 to 1830, he was a candidate for teaching until 1832 and then worked as a senior teacher at the Stralsund grammar school until 1834 . He then became prorector at the Collegium Groeningianum in Stargard in Pomerania , where he was appointed professor in 1840 . In 1843 he was elected director of the grammar school. In 1845 he published a pamphlet in which he called for reforms to the high school system, including the discontinuation of lessons in Greek and the restriction of Latin lessons . This brought him a lot of hostility, but also increased his level of awareness.
In 1848 he was elected to the Frankfurt National Assembly for the 9th constituency of the province of Pomerania ( Stargard ). There he joined the Westendhall faction. He participated in the Committee on Church and School Affairs.
His liberal attitude was added to him by the government, so that in 1856 he resigned from his position as grammar school director. He was put on waiting and lived as a private scholar in Berlin. He refused the request of the Prussian minister of education, Adalbert Falk , to return to civil service and was retired in 1875. After a few years in Berlin he lived secluded in Zerbst.
