Carl Friedrich Ernst Ludwig

Carl Friedrich Ernst Ludwig (partly also Ernst Ludwig ; born July 24, 1773 in Kranichfeld , † December 19, 1846 in Hamburg ) was a German publicist and journalist .

Life

Ludwig's father was an official commissioner in Kranichfeld. He attended the illustrious Gotha grammar school . During this time he lived with Friedrich von Schlichtegroll and was also supported by Friedrich Wilhelm Döring . He then went to study at the University of Jena . His further academic career had to be discontinued due to the death of his father in order to provide for the bereaved family.

In the 1790s, Ludwig became the tutor of the sons of Prince von Löwenstein-Wertheim and Heinrich Adolph von Zwanziger . He accompanied them to the University of Jena and after completing his studies became the private secretary of the von Zwanziger family. From there he came to the Saxon-Gotha-Altenburg Minister Hans Wilhelm von Thümmel as private secretary . From these services he was accepted into the civil service in 1799. First he was a chamber registrar, then a chamber administrator. He was also awarded the title of Ducal Altenburg Council. He stayed here until 1820, when he was dismissed as part of the restructuring of the state, but was allowed to continue to hold the title of ducal council.

Ludwig moved to Dresden . There he devoted himself to art and literature in company with Ludwig Tieck , Christoph August Tiedge and Karl Christian Friedrich Krause , before he unexpectedly received a call as editor of a political newspaper in Bremen . After three years from Bremen he went to Hamburg to take over the editing of the Adreß-Comptoir-Nachrichten and later of the literary supplement Börsenhalle . In Hamburg he wrote the history of the last fifty years , at the University of Jena due to which he became Dr. phil. received his doctorate . He was a member of several learned societies.
