Caro Dawes, 1924

Caro Dana Dawes , née Blymyer (born January 6, 1866 , † October 3, 1957 ) was the wife of Charles Gates Dawes , the US Vice President under Calvin Coolidge and thus the second lady of the United States.

Caro Blymyer married Charles Dawes in 1889. They had two children and adopted two more. After the death of their son Rufus in 1912, the Daweses withdrew from social life and instead devoted much of their energies to community service. While serving as a second lady, Dawes disappoints the Washington, DC social elite by declining many of the Society's invitations. Nevertheless, it was observed that its "Art sweet and gentle, was cultivated their conversations and their dignity inviolable" ( "manner what sweet and gentle, her conversation cultured, and her dignity unimpeachable" ).

Dawes died in 1957 and is buried with her husband in Rosehill Cemetery.
