Jill Tracy Jacobs Biden (born June 3, 1951 in Hammonton , New Jersey ) was the second lady of the United States of America from 2009 to 2017 as the wife of Joe Biden , the then Vice President .

Family and education

The eldest of five daughters of a banker and housewife, grew up in Willow Grove , Pennsylvania . Therefore, she has an accent that is typical of the Philadelphia metropolitan area and an interest in sports clubs from this region. She graduated from Upper Moreland High School in Willow Grove in 1969. In 1970 she married former college football player Bill Stevenson, from whom they separated in 1974. She then met then Senator Joe Biden in March 1975 as a student at the University of Pennsylvania on a blind date organized by Joe's brother Frank. In May 1975, she was legally divorced from Stevenson. Two years later, on June 17, 1977, she married Biden, who was widowed after a car accident in which his wife and daughter died and the father of two sons who had survived the accident. On June 8, 1981, the Bidens' daughter, Ashley Blazer, was born. To see and raise her daughter and two step-sons, Jill stopped working for two years.

Professional and social activities

Jill Biden has worked as an English teacher at various educational institutions. She has two masters degrees and received her PhD from the University of Delaware in January 2007 at the age of 55 . Her dissertation Student Retention at the Community College: Meeting Students' Needs was published under the name Jill Jacobs-Biden. After her husband became vice president, she continued to teach at a community college . A staff of eight and an office suite in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building were available for her work as the second lady of the United States . She started her own breast cancer foundation called Biden Breast Health . Above all, this is intended to show female students how important prevention is. As a result, the foundation has educated more than 7000 schoolgirls about breast cancer and its prevention in 15 years. She is also involved in other social organizations. Her main focus is on education, especially community colleges and families of military personnel . Jill Biden published a children's book about her husband Joe's youth in 2020 .
