Muriel Humphrey

Muriel Fay Buck Humphrey Brown (born February 20, 1912 in Huron , Beadle County , South Dakota ; †  September 20, 1998 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) was the wife of Hubert H. Humphreys , the former Vice President of the United States , and a US Senator .

After graduating from state schools, she attended Huron College . In 1936 she married Hubert Humphrey. With him she had three sons and a daughter. When her husband died in January 1978, she temporarily took his vacant seat in the US Senate in Washington, DC until November of the same year . In 1979 she married again. Muriel Humphrey spent her retirement in Plymouth, Minnesota. She was buried in Minneapolis.

Her son Skip became a politician and served as Attorney General of Minnesota from 1983 to 1999 . In 1998 he lost the election for the Senate seat previously held by his father and mother against David Durenberger .
