Ozora Pierson Stearns (born January 15, 1831 in De Kalb , New York , †  June 2, 1896 in Pacific Beach , California ) was an American politician .

Stearns, who in 1831 in De Kalb in St. Lawrence County in the state was born in New York, moved in 1833 with his parents to Ohio . The family settled in Lake County . Stearns studied at the University of Michigan and later in the law department of that university. In 1860 he was admitted to the legal profession after his local degree and practiced in Rochester ( Minnesota ). From 1866 to 1868 he held the office of mayor of the city.

On January 18, 1871, Stearns was elected a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacant seat of Daniel Sheldon Norton, who died in July 1870 . William Windom had served in the period between Norton's death and the election of a new senator . Stearns replaced Windom and remained in Congress from January 23 to March 3, 1871 . He renounced the candidacy for another term and Windom was again senator. In 1872 Stearns moved to Duluth and worked there again as a lawyer. From 1874 to 1895 he was a judge in the eleventh judicial district of Minnesota.

Stearns died in Pacific Beach in 1896. His remains were cremated in Los Angeles ; his ashes were buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Duluth.
