Carol Littleton

Carol S. Littleton (born October 23, 1942 in Miami , Oklahoma ) is an American film editor .

Life

Carol Littleton graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Oklahoma with her bachelor's degree in 1965 and her master's degree in 1970 . During this time she attended the University of Paris in 1968 on a Fulbright Commission grant . There she came into contact with French cinema and was enthusiastic about the Nouvelle Vague . After graduation, she returned to the United States and decided to take up the profession of film editor. In 1970 she moved to Los Angeles and started a company specializing in film editing for commercials. Soon she had established herself in Hollywood. With her editing of Legacy (1975) she was responsible for a feature film for the first time. She got another career boost when Lawrence Kasdan signed her for the film Hot Blood - Cold Blood . For him she edited Silverado , Wyatt Earp - The Life of a Legend and Dreamcatcher, among others . Since Kasdan was working as a screenwriter for The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark , he recommended Steven Spielberg to work with Littleton, who hired her for ET - The Extra-Terrestrial . Her editing work on this film received an Oscar nomination for Best Editing in 1983 .

Carol Littleton is a member of the American Cinema Editors . She was its president from 1988 to 1991 and its vice-president from 1994 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2007.

She is married to cameraman John Bailey .
