Cedarhurst is a suburb of New York City , but belongs to the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County . Cedarhurst is located on the south coast of Long Island in the state of New York in the United States .

history

The Village was incorporated in 1910. It is together with the town of Lawrence and the villages of Woodmere, Inwood, "The Hewletts", which consists of the hamlets of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, Hewlett Neck and Hewlett, and Woodsburgh a part of the " Five Towns ".

The former name of Cedarhurst is Ocean Point. The place was connected to the railroad network in 1896, which ensured good accessibility, especially the Rockaway Hunting Club, which was established in Cedarhurst in 1878. A post office opened in 1884 and Ocean Point was renamed Cedarhurst, in part at the request of the Hunting Club.

For many years, Central Avenue, the area's main business hub, was viewed as a kind of rodeo drive for Long Island, as it was home to numerous high-priced shops and boutiques. With the growth of the local Orthodox Jewish community today, many shops and restaurants offer goods for the people. Because devout Jews do not go shopping on Shabbat , many shops are closed on Saturday, reducing pedestrian traffic for shops that are open on Saturday.
