Cerklje na Gorenjskem (German: Zirklach in der Oberkrain ) is a municipality in the Gorenjska region in Slovenia .

Location and inhabitants

The total community, which consists of 30 localities and hamlets, has 6,835 people. The main town of Cerklje na Gorenjskem alone has 1,438 inhabitants. The municipality is located in the transition from the Kranjsko polje to the Kamniške Alpe and the Tunjice hills in the east.

The Strmol Castle with its park and the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Cerklje are worth seeing . A church is said to have stood there as early as the 9th century. At the beginning of the 13th century there were two smaller churches next to it. One was destroyed in an earthquake in 1511 and the other was demolished afterwards. The mountain world is a varied landscape, hiking area in summer, and the Krvavec ski area in winter is an important economic factor .

The Dominican convent Michelstetten, founded in 1238 and closed in 1782, is located in Velesovo .

On the Krvavec , a mountain in Cerlje na Gorenjskem, there has been a transmitter of the Slovenian radio for radio and television since 1957 . A 100 meter high reinforced concrete tower is used as the antenna carrier, which is located on the transmitter building of the transmitter system.
