Cesare Dell'Acqua
Cesare Felice Giorgio Dell'Acqua (born July 22, 1821 in Piran , Austrian Empire ; died February 16, 1905 in Brussels ) was an Italian painter.
Life
Cesare Dell'Acqua was in time for Empire of Austria belonging Piran born. His father Andrea Lengo was a judge from neighboring Koper , his mother Caterina came from Trieste .
After the death of his father in 1826, Dell'Acqua moved with his family to Koper , where he attended school. In 1833 he continued his training in the neighboring port city of Trieste . Here he later began to earn his living in a trading company as a simple assistant. Through his work he gained access to influential circles, including the Venetian sculptor Pietro Zandomeneghi (1806–1866), the father of Federico Zandomeneghi , and the Trieste historian Pietro Kandler (1804–1872). A scholarship from the city of Trieste enabled the young Dell'Acqua to study art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice ( Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia ) from 1842 to 1847 . During his studies he received his first commissions from Archduke Johann of Austria . In 1844 Dell'Acqua acted as a reporter for the shipping company Österreichischer Lloyd and documented the visit of Emperor Franz Joseph I in Trieste in 16 lithographs.
After completing his studies, Dell'Acqua spent some time in Vienna , Munich , Paris , Florence and Rome , where he met well-known artists such as Friedrich Overbeck . In 1848 Dell'Acqua finally settled with his brother Eugenio in Brussels . Here he took art lessons from the Belgian painter Louis Gallait and became a member of the Belgian artists and writers' circle Cercle artistique et littéraire . In 1856 Dell'Acqua married the Belgian Carolina van der Elst, who gave him two daughters, Eva and Aline.
Dell'Acqua finally achieved the breakthrough in 1857. At the Esposizione Generale delle Belle Arti exhibition in Brussels, his painting Gli esuli milanesi accolti a Brescia dopo la distruzione della loro città nel 1162 da parte di Federico Barbarossa was awarded.
Despite his great success in Belgium, Dell'Acqua felt bound and indebted to the city of Trieste, which had made his academic career possible for him. His solidarity was shown in numerous works that he produced between 1852 and 1877 for numerous institutions and private individuals in Trieste. In addition to the church of the Greek Orthodox community in Trieste, Dell'Acqua furnished the homes of wealthy citizens such as Pasquale Revoltella and Leopoldo Vianello as well as Miramare Castle , the residence of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria . The motifs of his works represented important events in Trieste's history such as the beginning of Austria's patronage over Trieste (1382) or the elevation of the city to a free port (1719).
Since the 1870s, Dell'Acqua has increasingly entered international territory. He took part in the world exhibition in Vienna in 1873 and in an art exhibition in London in 1874 . This was followed by international appearances in Philadelphia (1882), Adelaide , Australia (1887) and Melbourne (1888) as well as at the world exhibition in Chicago (1893).
Dell'Acqua died on February 16, 1905 at his home in Brussels at the age of 83.
