Chak De! India - An unbeatable team ( Hindi : चक दे इंडिया , cak de iṇḍiyā ; Urdu : چک دے انڈیا) is a 2007 Indian sports film directed by Shimit Amin .

action

The film begins with a scene in Delhi and shows the final minutes of the final of the men's hockey world championship. Pakistan leads 1-0 against India. In the last few seconds of the game, the Indian captain Kabir Khan is fouled in the penalty area and is awarded a seven-meter, which he wants to take personally. But he shoots just over the goal and India loses. A photographer caught a handshake between Kabir and a Pakistani player, and rumors quickly began to spread that Kabir Khan deliberately failed to convert the penalty. Kabir and his mother have to flee into exile.

Seven years later, Kabir Khan reappeared in public and applied for the position of national coach of the Indian women's national team, a team that practically only exists on paper. Due to the lack of competition, it is easy for him to get the job.

Already during the first training session, Kabir realized that the 16 women, who come from different parts of India, lacked team spirit, perseverance and motivation. There are also some personal problems. The young Komal Chautala (Chitrashi Rawat) from Haryana gets into a competition with Preeti Sabarwal (Sagarika Ghatge) from Chandigarh. Balbir Kaur (Tanya Abrol) from Punjab barely has her temper under control and bullies Rani Dispotta (Seema Azmi) and Soimoi Kerketa (Nisha Nair), who come from small and somewhat backward villages in Jharkhand, especially since Soimoi doesn't understand English. Mary Ralte (Kimi Laldawla) from Mizoram and Molly Zimik (Masochon Zimik) from Manipur (in Northeast India) are treated like "foreigners" because of their East Asian appearance. The new captain Vidya Sharma (Vidya Malvade) is put under pressure by her future father-in-law to give up hockey. Preeti has a similar experience, whose fiancé Abhimanyu Singh (Vivan Bhatena), vice-captain of the Indian national cricket team, does not take women's hockey seriously. He demands that Preeti not go to the World Cup with the team so that they can get married during this time.

Kabir tries to teach the women discipline and sends some players to the bench during the first minutes of training. Among them, the most experienced player and captain of the past few years is Bindia Naik (Shilpa Shukla), who then incites her teammates to defend themselves against Kabir's tough training methods. Thus Kabir is forced to give up his coaching post. To say goodbye, he invites the team, his assistant Krishnaji and team manager Sukhlal to lunch in a restaurant, where a group of men start to turn on Mary during the meal, which turns into a fierce fight between the players and the group of men. After the hockey team won the fight, they saw that Kabir was right, that they could go a long way with teamwork, and they asked him if he could go on training them.

The newly discovered team spirit is reflected in training, but is put to the test again when Mr. Tripathi, President of the Indian Hockey Association, decides to forego the participation of the women's team in the World Cup in order to invest the money saved in the men's team . To change his mind, Kabir suggests a game between women and men. The players are not very enthusiastic because they don't envision any chances. And as expected, the men's team leads 3-0 after the first half. But Kabir tries to encourage the team at half-time, and when the board asks if the team would rather give up, the players are highly motivated to show everyone how good they are. You managed to catch up with two goals and only just missed the balance in the end. They want to leave the field disappointed, but Tripathi and the men are impressed and let the team go to Australia for the World Cup.

But already in the first game they have to play against the favorites Australia and are beaten 7-0. Thanks to Kabir's long training, the Indian team will appear much better organized in the next game against England and manage to repel all attacks by the English women. Shortly before the end, Preeti even scored the winning goal. However, already with this hit it becomes obvious that Komal and Preeti continue to compete and try to score more goals than the other and not fit in. India can also win the following games. They win against Spain (1-0), against South Africa (2-0) and against New Zealand (1-0). In the game against the Argentines, who are known for their brutal style of play, the robust Balbir can boast and lead India with a 1-0 victory in the semi-finals against South Korea. South Korea has so far defended with an extremely tight man marking, leaving no space for the opposing strikers. Vidya and Kabir agree that only the most experienced player, Bindia Naik, can help to win here. Until now, Bindia was only allowed to sit on the bench, as she still cannot cope with Kabir's new playing methods. She and Gunjan, who both usually play on the defensive, score the winning goal that puts India in the final against Australia.

On the evening before the final, Kabir asked Komal and Preeti to talk to them and tried to make them aware that if they didn't play together, they would give Australia the victory. But Preeti explains to Komal that she has to become the top scorer in order to prove to her fiancé how successful she is at hockey. In the final, Preeti scored the leading goal in the first minute. However, due to the continued lack of cooperation with Komal, Australia manage to score two goals and take the lead. In the last few minutes Komal has managed to leave all of Australia's players behind. Only the goalkeeper is in front of her and Preeti. The Australian coach is certain that Komal will not pass and calls to his player to get out of the gate and block Komal, but in the last second Komal passes to Preeti, who scores to equalize. There is a shooting from seven meters. Bindia, Aliya, Mary, Nethra and Preeti are supposed to compete for India, but Preeti lets Komal take her shot. Both Nathra and Aliya awarded, giving Australia a 4-2 lead. But Komal and Mary are sure to convert, while captain Vidya can save two shots as goalkeeper. So everything depends on the last two seven meters. Bindia shows no nerves and hits, so the victory depends on Vidya alone. Kabir remembers his game against Pakistan and can see that the Australian is about to shoot. He gives Vidya a hidden sign to stop and he is right, making India world champion. With this victory, Kabir can clear his name and return to his old house with his mother.
