Charles II. De Bourbon (* 1433 in Moulins ; † September 13, 1488 in Lyon ) was Archbishop of Lyon and for a short time Duke of Bourbon .

Life

Charles de Bourbon was the son of Duke Charles I de Bourbon and his second wife Agnes of Burgundy . At the age of 10 he was elected canon in 1443 and the following year Archbishop of Lyon. On November 7, 1446, after the death of Geoffroy II. De Versaillera , who had also been appointed archbishop in 1444, he was confirmed in this office. During his minority he was under the reign of Rollin, Bishop of Autun from 1446 to 1447 , then from 1447 to 1449 under that of Jean du Gué, Bishop of Orléans , and finally from 1449 to 1469 under that of Jean de Bourbon , Bishop of Le Puy-en-Velay . The episcopal ordination donated to him on September 21, 1466 in the cathedral Saint-Jean of Lyon , Jean Coeur , the archbishop of Bourges , co- consecrators were Antoine Gobert , bishop of Alet , and Étienne Chassaigné , auxiliary bishop in Lyon.

From 1472 to 1476 he was also a legate of the Pope, who lived in Avignon .

In the consistory of December 18, 1476 he was elevated to cardinal priest by Pope Sixtus IV , which was announced on December 20 of the same year; the Pope sent him the red hat on January 15, 1477 and awarded him the Roman titular church Santi Silvestro e Martino . From March 10, 1476 until his death, Charles de Bourbon was administrator of the Diocese of Clermont . He did not take part in the 1484 conclave , from which Innocent VIII emerged as Pope.

Shortly before his death, Charles inherited his brother John II's property, including the Duchy of Bourbon and the Duchy of Auvergne .

He had an illegitimate daughter, Isabelle de Bourbon, who married Gilbert de Chantelot, seigneur de La Chaise; she died in Paris in 1497.

Charles de Bourbon was buried in the Saint-Jean Cathedral in Lyon, and his tomb was rediscovered in 1816.
