Charles Stewart, 6th Duke of Lennox, 3rd Duke of Richmond KG (born March 7, 1639 in London , † December 12, 1672 in Helsingør ) was a Scottish nobleman from the Stewart family .

He was a son of George Stewart, 9th Seigneur d'Aubigny and his wife Catherine Howard. He was raised to 1st Earl of Lichfield and 1st Baron Stewart of Newbury in 1645 . He followed his cousin Esmé Stewart as Duke of Lennox and Richmond in 1660 . In 1665 he inherited the French title Seigneur de Aubigny im Berry, created in 1423, from his uncle Ludovic Stuart . In 1668 he inherited the title Baron Clifton (of Leighton Bromswold in the County of Huntingdon ) created in 1608 from his cousin Mary Butler .

He held the offices of Gentleman of the Bedchamber and Lord Lieutenant of Dorset . From 1671 to 1672 he was the English ambassador to Denmark . He drowned at the age of 33 and was buried in Westminster Abbey .

He was married three times: his first wife was since 1659 Elizabeth (1644–1661), daughter of Richard Rogers and widowed Viscountess Mansfield. In 1662 he married Margaret (1652–1667), daughter of Laurence Banaster, in his second marriage. His third marriage was with Frances Theresa (1648–1702), daughter of Walter Stuart of Blantyre, who was also called "La Belle Stuart" and was coveted by King Charles II as a mistress .

Despite his three marriages, the duke died with no offspring. His only daughter with his first wife had died young in 1662. His sister Katherine (1640-1702) followed him as Baroness Clifton. All of his other titles were extinguished. Charles II reassigned the Duke title to his illegitimate son in 1675 with Louise de Kérouaille , Charles Lennox, 1st Duke of Richmond, 1st Duke of Lennox .
