biography

Childhood and youth

Charlie Guest learned to ski at the age of three in the Cairngorms near her grandmother's house. There she trained with the Scottish Ski Association until she joined the British Ski Academy based in the French Alps at the age of eleven . At the age of 14 she became the first British girl to win an international children's race before she competed in her first FIS races in 2008 . In 2009 she took part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Szczyrk part, finishing in her best discipline slalom rank 47. In March 2012 she launched in Roccaraso first time at a World Youth Championship . After graduating from school in the same year, Guest devoted herself entirely to ski racing and has since trained most of the time in Austria .

World Cup and major events

On January 15, 2013, she made her World Cup debut in the Flachau night slalom , having made her debut in the European Cup just five days earlier . At the end of the season, she won her first of six national championships in the super combined . After a race win and winning the giant slalom classification in the Australia New Zealand Cup , she started mainly in the European Cup in winter 2013/14 , but was only able to place in the points once. At the Junior World Championships in Jasná, she classified herself in all disciplines except downhill, with a 17th slalom rank remaining her best result. In November 2014, she had a hard fall during training and suffered four vertebral fractures . Nevertheless, she was able to participate in the World Championships in Vail , where she finished 32 and 43 in slalom and giant slalom.

After several minor injuries, she qualified for the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang , where she finished 33rd in slalom. In the team competition , she reached the second round with the British team after a surprising victory over the USA, although she lost both of her runs. In August she celebrated her second victory in the ANC, but was unable to contest races for several months afterwards due to an injury. As a result of mental problems, she began to work with a mental coach. She made her comeback at the World Championships in Åre and achieved 24th place in the slalom, her best result at a major event to date. After she had not competed in a European Cup race for over a year, she achieved her first podium finish in March with second place in the Jasná slalom. Only two weeks later, she won the race in Folgaria , making herself the first British European Cup winner.

On December 15, 2019, she won after a successful qualification in the parallel slalom of St. Moritz with rank 29 her first World Cup points.

In September 2019, Charlie Guest began studying psychology at the University of Aberdeen .
