Le Chesnay was a French municipality with 27,690 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Yvelines department in the region Ile-de-France . It belonged to the arrondissement of Versailles and was the capital of the canton of Le Chesnay . The inhabitants are called Chesnaysia .

geography

Le Chesnay is located immediately northeast of the Palace of Versailles . Together with Versailles and other surrounding communities, Le Chesnay forms a closed settlement area in the west of the greater Paris area.

Neighborhoods of Le Chesnay are La Celle-Saint-Cloud in the north, Vaucresson and Marnes-la-Coquette in the northeast, Versailles in the southeast, south and southwest and Rocquencourt in the northwest.

history

On January 1, 2019, Le Chesnay and Rocquencourt were merged to form Commune nouvelle Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt .

Science and Research

The headquarters of the Institut national de recherche en informatique et en automatique (INRIA) is located in Le Chesnay .
